Class Information
Jeannie Zimbalatti’s Dance School offers many different styles of dance with classes to fit every age and skill level. Below are some of the programs and classes we offer. Call for more details.
Ballet
The Ballet program at Jeannie Zimbalatti’s starts with the youngest of dancers and continues on to the advanced and adult levels. Our Ballet/Creative Movement class introduces the littlest ballerinas to the world of dance through creative movement, beginning ballet technique, and basic tumbling.
From there, dancers ages 5-10 continue on with more emphasis on technique, proper stretching and strengthening, and barre and center work. At age 11 or 12, with approximately 3 years or more of ballet training, a dancer may be considered for Pointe. Pointe dancers continue on with barre, adagio, allegro, combinations, and artistic choreography. Dancers may also be invited to join the JZ Ballet Company, a twice a week, intensive ballet class, which focuses on technique, Pointe training, and choreography. Ballet is essential for any dancer because it trains them in proper body positioning, control, grace, and flexibility.
Tap
Our Tap program introduces young dancers to the fun, rhythmic sounds of tap. Children learn the basic techniques of tap dancing by working at the barre and in the center, as well as across the floor. As they advance, strong emphasis is placed on tone, clarity, speed, quality, and rhythmic progressions. Advanced tappers not only focus on these elements but are continuously challenged through class combinations and exciting choreography. Dancers who advance and excel in Tap may be asked to join our Tap Company. This intensive, once a week class, allows serious Tappers to strengthen their existing skills, while they concentrate heavily on intricate rhythms, overall speed, clarity, and choreography.
Jazz
Our jazz technique combines the strength of Hip-Hop with the control and flexibility of Jazz. Students learn the proper jazz vocabulary while developing coordination, control, and flexibility. Emphasis is also placed on musicality, discipline, and quality of movement. Dancers begin with a warm-up and then class continues with center work, combinations and progressions, choreography, and a cool down. Serious Jazz dancers may be invited to join the Jazz Company. The Company focuses on building technique and strength, while placing strong emphasis on flexibility, presence, and creative choreography.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop is a free style dance form based on jazz movements. It places emphasis on original form and style. Our Hip Hop classes are strongly built around choreography that is ever-changing due to popular culture. Also referred to as “street dancing”, our program allows students to learn fun, funky combinations in a high-energy class setting. We also offer a Boys Only Hip Hop class, which not only gives boys some great, original choreography, but also begins training them in Break dancing.
Hawaiian
The Hawaiian classes include all aspects of Hawaiian dancing such as chants, implements, traditional, and modern hulas. All dancers, regardless of level, learn the proper terminology as well as the basic steps and arm movements. As students progress, so does the difficulty in the routines and choreography. This dance form is truly stunning to watch and the students in the Hawaiian program are no exception.
Special Needs
Jeannie Zimbalatti’s offers a truly unique program called Special Needs Dance. This class offers special needs children the environment they need to explore the world of dance. Students learn Jazz or Ballet techniques tailored to suit their needs and abilities. The class is structured much like our other dance programs but enables a dancer with special needs to learn and work at their own pace, enjoy and appreciate dance, and perform choreography, all in a positive atmosphere.
